My Life Journey

I have been active in sports and exercise. My elementary and middle school years were defined by a love for gymnastics and dance. Throughout high school I was a cheerleader.  In keeping with an active and healthy lifestyle, in college I became an avid exerciser and have continued this to the present time. Unfortunately, over the years a high activity level took a toll on my body.

My symptoms included inflammation and pain in multiple joints and muscles that worsened with activity.  In addition, I had gastrointestinal issues. I became frustrated when I sought out medical treatment and despite seeing many different professionals; my symptoms were never fully alleviated. I generally never felt “well.” I managed my discomfort and was able to avoid surgery with physical therapy but, more than anything I decreased my activity level and gave up high-impact and high-intensity exercise.

My frustrations led me to embark on a journey to find a way to participate fully in the activities I loved. I found a holistic approach with an emphasis on finding the underlying causes to my diagnosis and symptoms. This holistic approach called Functional and Integrative Medicine, utilizes diet changes, supplements, and meditation.

Over time, my interest in learning more became immense. I studied the areas I had the most chronic symptoms myself, one of which involved low back and sciatic type symptoms. I did some extra training in this area to master manual techniques to help treat the sacroiliac (below the lumbar) area which plagues many people with low back pain.

As I pursued current hip treatment, I discovered the work of Pete Egoscue and became a Postural Alignment Specialist certified by Egoscue University. I combined this work with other posture courses and previous years of intense self-study focused on the sacroiliac joint.  As quoted by the Vice President of Egoscue, John Elder, “The hip is the second brain as it connects and moves the lower half of the body and supports the upper half of the body.” This was an “aha” moment for me on how to connect the whole body for the treatment of various symptoms.

The course of events that led me to become a Postural Alignment Specialist combined with my background as a physical therapist has given me a unique specialization. The results have been extremely rewarding in treating patients with many different joint pains, vertigo, headaches, balance, and posture. I applied the theory to my own treatment and I am finally able exercise with my friends, exist without pain, and even be able to wear high heals to parties…yes, wearing pretty shoes do make me happy!!!!!

I look forward to continuing to help others with their journey to self-healing and being able to do whatever it is that makes them happy as well!
